Skirting the Trailer

The wind out here is truly amazing! At the height of a wind storm you have to hold on for dear life. Seriously, it can throw you to the ground, or hurl something straight at you. Frequently, it is too windy to go outside without goggles to protect eyes from blowing sand. We've even had quite a few things simply destroyed by the wind.

So what does the wind have to do with skirting our trailer? Without the protection our skirting now provides, the trailer used to rock like a boat. Wind rushed beneath our dwelling stealing our heat during the night and shaking us back and forth. Since we've attached plywood panels around the base of our trailer, the wind is forced to travel over the trailer rather than under. Our house no longer sways like it once did, and we are much, much warmer during winter nights. We also gained an enclosed storage area under our living space.

The trailer skirting was a fairly simple upgrade and its benefits were greater than expected. Beyond all of the little luxuries it is important to note that our heating needs were greatly reduced, and our dependency on propane lessened.
